New Pattern Alert: Roll for Initiative! New Pattern Featuring Quilter's Select 60 Degree Triangle Rulers
Posted by Monet Andrews on
As you may already be aware, Angie has been writing and releasing patterns for a few months now. The "Monkey See, Monkey Sew" patterns range from floral inspirations to geometric ones, with the newest installment being for all the nerds out there. "Roll for Initiative" features use of the 60 Degree Triangle ruler from Quilter's Select and was a fun little challenge for Angie to math out, but with a little blood, sweat, and tears, she created a pattern after her own heart: the D20 block.

This pattern was a journey to design. Angie has been cooking up this brainchild for many months and the trial and error process was a long one to figure out all the math. While this pattern is possible to make without the Quilter's Select rulers, crafting it is not nearly as fun or straightforward. The 60 degree triangle is the exact correct angle to measure any size you want to make your die blocks and snip the corners to craft smooth, flat, and accurate seams. The same is true for the half 60 degree triangle pieces. These rulers have always been a favorite because of the non-slip coating that ensures perfectly straight and accurate cuts every time, but for this pattern specifically, the engineered angles of the ruler's corners bring this pattern from an expert level of difficulty to an simple one.

This pattern was inspired by Angie's sons, who have spent countless hours running Dungeons and Dragons campaigns and games at the dinner table. It was almost as entertaining to watch and listen to their games as it was to actually play with them. The game itself, for those of you who may be unfamiliar, is a tabletop role-playing game (or RPG). All you really need to start a game like this is a set of dice and a whole lot of imagination, though it certainly helps to have some table maps, character figurines, and lots of snacks.
The pattern itself is already available on the website in physical copy or downloadable PDF form; you can check it out here!
A list of recommended notions is posted on the pattern listing page and more information about each item can be found below. We are so excited to share this new pattern with you, please enjoy!
