Start your creative journey into the colorful and whimsical world of Laura Heine Collage. In this hands-on workshop at 5 Little Monkeys, you'll explore Laura's signature process and style, using her mix of florals, patterns, and vibrant imagery to create a stunning fabric collage wall hanging. Instructor Cathy Thornton, a certified Laura Heine Instructor, will guide you through the essentials—from understand the pattern to mastering Steam A Seam 2 application to perfecting your cutting and trimming techniques. You'll work on the collage portion of the pattern and receive ideas for finishing your project. All fabric supplies and lunches are provided—just bring your creativity and enthusiasm. It's bound to be 2 great days with your collage journey beginning!

Cathy will be impressing us with a trunk show on Friday morning, if you can't make the class, you are welcome to sign up for only this portion of the weekend.  After lunch on Friday, we will dive into our project. Cathy will walk us through setting up our station and prepping our fabric kit.  All tools for class will be available in the shop for class, we encourage you to order anything you need ahead of time, and it will be added to your goodie bags. 

In this class, we will be using Laura Heine’s Teeny Tiny Group #11 Bouquet, Mosaic and Statement Vase pattern (included in your kit). You will learn why we use Steam-A-Seam 2 (included in your kit) for applique pieces. Master the cutting and trimming of applique pieces. We will be working on the collage part of the pattern and give participants ideas for finishing your project.

 

Essential Supply List:

  • o  Kay Buckley medium fine point handle scissors are recommended. (Blue Handle)
  • o  Stiletto- helpful, but not required
  • o  Applique pressing sheet – 17” x 24”
  • o  Embroidery Perfection Tape to hold pattern down.
  • o  #2 Pencil for tracing your pattern.
  • o  Small rotary cutter, mat, and ruler
  • o  Paper scissors
  • o  Backing ¾ yard OR frame or stretcher canvas (16’ x 20” for finishing)

 

We will have irons and ironing surfaces available.
