The issue includes a multi-page shop profile and a featured quilt designed and created by owner Angie Lamoree.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local Quilt Shop Featured in Better Homes and Gardens® Quilt Sampler® Magazine
5 Little Monkeys Quilt & Sew owned by Angie and DJ Lamoree in Weaverville, North Carolina has been chosen as one of the 10 Top Shops from across North America to be featured in the Spring/Summer 2020 issue of Quilt Sampler® magazine, published by Better Homes & Gardens. The issue will be available on newsstands May 1, 2020. Quilt Sampler, published twice a year, has been profiling North America’s top quilt shops since 1995.
Competition to be included in Quilt Sampler is high—nearly 3,000 quilt shops were eligible to apply for this year’s honor. To apply, quilt shop owners must submit a detailed application on their history, business promotions, charitable work, teaching schedules and design philosophies. A panel of quilt experts, spearheaded by the American Patchwork & Quilting® staff, reviews the applications to select the 10 shops.
Although many shops apply annually to appear in the magazine, Angie was contacted last year by Quilt Sampler staff and asked if she would like to apply. Late last summer, she was notified that 5 Little Monkeys Quilt & Sew had been selected as one of the 10 Top Shops to appear in the Spring/Summer 2020 issue, along with her original quilt design featuring fabrics by Tula Pink, of FreeSpirit Fabrics. That issue includes a multipage profile and instructions for that original quilt.
The plans for a combination magazine reveal party/anniversary party (they recently celebrated their 3rd anniversary in business) had to be put on hold when the stay-at-home orders rolled out in March. Because there are a great many avid quilters who are in the “most vulnerable” category, 5 Little Monkeys Quilt & Sew shifted their services to online and phone shopping on March 18 to be proactive in stopping the spread of COVID-19. During this time they have had many challenges, including a brief illness, but the entire family pitched in to keep the store running. Until the day when 5 Little Monkeys can safely reopen the doors to the shop, customers can still get their shop fix with Angie’s daily Facebook Live videos and the online shopping capability.
The art of quilting has grown and changed dramatically since the early days, and quilting is experiencing a major renaissance. A Quilting Consumer Insights study completed by American Patchwork & Quilting magazine reports that the U.S. quilting market is composed of 4.2 million avid quilters. Further research shows that readers of American Patchwork & Quilting spend an average of $1,165 per year on quilting supplies and complete nearly 11 projects per year.
