Travel Essentials Workshop

Wednesday September 23, 2020 from 10 am till 5 pm

Join Carrie for a fun filled day - this is the bag she uses the most! Carry your travel essentials in style with this handy hanging organizer. The organizer measures 12" x 27" when open and folds to a compact 12" x 9" x 3" for storage. Three see-through pockets in the hanging organizer make everything easy to find. A deep zippered pocket on the bottom is perfect for bottles, tubes, and larger items. The organizer would also make a perfect carrying case for transporting sewing supplies and projects to classes. We will only be making the cosmetic organizer (not the optional carrying strap, nor the flat iron/curling iron case). There is homework for this class - all pieces on page 2 of the pattern need to be cut out and labeled and all quilting on the bag needs to be done before arriving the morning of class. Non-directional fabrics make this much easier to work with - if working with directional fabrics, be very careful with placement before quilting and cutting out pieces.

Materials:
  • Main Fabric - 1 yard
  • Lining Fabric - 1 yard
  • Coordinating fabric - 5/8 yard (for bias binding, handle, inner facing and zipper pulls (this can also be the same color as the main fabric if you'd like)
  • Travel Essentials Pattern byAnnie
  • Soft & Stable or Bosal - small package 18" x 58"
  • Mesh - 12-1/2" x 7-1/2" (differs from pattern)
  • Vinyl - clear heavy weight - 12" x 10"
  • Fusible Interfacing SF101 - 12" x 15"
  • Strapping - one inch wide - 18" (please note this differs from the pattern due to not making the carrying strap)
  • Zippers - byAnnie - two 40" double slide zippers (that we will cut, this differs from pattern)
  • 1" Hardware - 1 D-ring & 1 Swivel hook - silver or antique brass (differs from pattern)
  • Clover Wonder Clips - lots of these
  • Purple Thang as well as a Metal Stiletto if you have one
  • Sewline Fabric Pencil (color appropriate for your fabric) or other removable fabric marking pen
  • Sewing Machine (heavy duty, needs to be able to handle large thickness'), thread to match and contrast your fabric, rotary cutter, small cutting mat, rulers, good strong pins as well as sharper more delicate pins, extra sewing machine needles (trust me), run some bobbins of colors you're using.
  • Knee Lift for your machine if you have one
  • Monofilament thread & bobbin (in case you want to sew something and you don't want it to show)
  • Karen Kay Buckley larger dark blue handled scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Several safety pins
  • Bring all your extra material, left over bosal, mesh, etc.
  • Bring a lunch - we will only take 30 minutes for lunch, and we will all break at the same time - 12:30-1:00.
