Instructor: Dianna Traylor
Location: In person at 5LM headquarters (32 N. Main Street, Weaverville, NC)
This is a great pattern for a beginner. They are perfect for hanging at home in style or going out while looking put together. We’ll use your basic sewing skills as well as teach you to create a comfy, interfaced waist and perfect pockets. We will take time in the Preparation Class on 1/16 to make sure you get a good adjusted fit in the waist and crotch and help you choose wide leg or tapered. These slacks make up beautifully in lightweight cotton lawn for use as pajama bottoms or they can be fashioned from a solid shot cotton for a great all-around pair of slacks. Blue chambray will give you a nice blue jeans look. Go bold with an Anna Maria or Odile print, sweet with a tiny Tilda floral, or fun with Alexander Henry or Cori Dantini.
You will succeed in class if you have a working knowledge of basic sewing skills such as measurement, seams, pinning, ironing, and laughing! If you’ve taken a class from Dianna in the past, you know that she enjoys spending time finding fabrics that work with your body, your hair color, and your skin tone. If you hate choosing fabric because you’re ‘just not sure,’ then this is your place! The collective wisdom of the class will help you select the perfect fabric for the effect you’re looking for.
The Prep Class on January 16th: Do NOT Bring Your Sewing Machine. You WILL need your Free Range Slacks Pattern, available at 5LM. Bring paper scissors, a tape measure and something for taking notes. In the prep class, we will discuss and help you finalize the following: Pattern Review, Your Measurements and Size Fabric and Thread Selections, plus Elastic for the waist and Fabric Length Requirements - We will adjust if your fabric has directionality.
Your Homework will be to wash, straighten, and iron your fabric before class. You will also need to add a new needle, thread and ensure your machine is in working condition before class. Reviewing the written instructions also helps!
The Saturday Class on January 27th: Arrive with your machine tuned and ready to go … but don’t plug in until after we cut our fabric.
