Collage Quilt Workshop

October 29, 30 2019 10:30 am to 4:30 pm

Instructor: Carrie Licatovich

Join Carrie for a fun-filled two day workshop exploring the fabric collage techniques used by the Laura Heine patterns. This will be a collaborative time to play and explore as we work on our fabric collage projects. In this class we will dive into color, value, contrast and scale to add dimensions to a project that is a whirlwind of color, shapes, and designs!. When registering please indicate which pattern you will be doing. Your choice of pattern must be decided two weeks prior to your first class. All skill levels from confident beginner to advanced. Bring a sack lunch if desired. If you are doing one of the collage patterns which require the background to be pieced, please have it pieced together prior to class. No Sewing machine needed for this class.

Materials: All Materials available in the shop prior to and during class. Discounts on all supplies available upon class sign up.
  • Laura Heine Pattern of your choice
  • Several yards of Steam a Seam 2 (amount needed will depend on pattern chosen)
  • Applique Pressing Sheet
  • Small iron
  • Ironing pad
  • Loads of floral fabrics for your collage. You’ll be fussy cutting the flowers/motifs you want to showcase so bring lots of different fabrics to increase the diversity of your colors/flowers. The more the better as you’ll need more choices than you think. You’ll want all different sizes of flowers too – large, medium, small. You need a little bit of a lot of fabric! Also bring any unique to you fabrics that you can add as little touches of personalization (like on Carrie's camper above - she added a kitty in the window and a flamingo hula dancer).
  • Desired background fabric - each of her patterns requires a different amount so check the pattern. These patterns look wonderful on pieced neutral backgrounds.
  • Pattern Ease if you'd like to build your animal on this or you can build directly on your background fabric
  • Scissors with a micro serrated edge (Karen Kay Buckley scissors are the bomb)
  • Sharpie
  • Sack lunch
